Global Talent Visa (Tech Nation Route)

Copperstone Solicitors – Immigration Lawyers in London

The Global Talent Visa—previously known as the Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa—is designed for individuals who are recognised or emerging leaders in fields such as digital technology, science, engineering, arts, and humanities. For those in the digital sector, this visa is often referred to as the Tech Nation Visa, as Tech Nation was previously the designated endorsing body for tech-related applications.

Although Tech Nation has now ceased operations, new endorsing bodies continue to support digital technology endorsements. At Copperstone Solicitors, we offer precise legal guidance to help you secure endorsement and successfully obtain this highly competitive visa.

Why Choose the Global Talent Visa?

  • No sponsorship required – Applicants are endorsed, not sponsored.
  • Fast-track to settlement – Apply for ILR after just 3 years if endorsed under the Exceptional Talent route, or 5 years under Exceptional Promise.
  • Full work flexibility – Work for a company, start your own business, or work as a consultant/freelancer.
  • Dependents allowed – Bring your spouse/partner and children under 18.
  • Free UK education for dependent children.

Exceptional Talent vs Exceptional Promise

Applicants can apply under one of two routes:

Exceptional Talent (for established leaders)

You must demonstrate:

  • You are internationally recognised as a leader in digital technology.
  • You meet 2 out of 4 criteria including innovation, recognition, impact, and academic contributions.

Exceptional Promise (for emerging leaders)

You must demonstrate:

  • You show potential to become a leader in the field.
  • Evidence of 2 out of 4 criteria such as innovation, academic work, or industry recognition.

Acceptable Evidence May Include:

  • Recognition for work beyond your occupation.
  • Proven innovation in tech, especially as a founder or key employee of a product-led company.
  • Contributions to the sector through technical or commercial expertise.
  • Published research or endorsements from senior academic figures.

New Endorsing Bodies (Post-Tech Nation)

While Tech Nation previously oversaw tech sector endorsements, a new framework of approved endorsing bodies is now in place. Our team has adjusted to these changes and can:

  • Help identify the most appropriate endorsing body for your sector.
  • Guide you through the endorsement process.
  • Assist with your Stage 1 and Stage 2 visa applications.
  • Provide strategic advice on how to structure your evidence.

Our Legal Services Include:

  • Initial eligibility assessment
  • Tailored advice for selecting the correct endorsement route
  • Drafting personal statements and reference letters
  • Application preparation for both endorsement and visa
  • Guidance on ILR following 3 or 5 years in the UK
